Final Thoughts

My time in Astronomy this semester taught me the importance of perspective. From the first metaphors on the size of our universe to the map of dark matter, I’ve discovered just how small the earth really is, let alone our presence on it. That, in combination with the socially conscious blog posts has led me to discern our role as small discoverers in a vast universe. We have only existed for a short amount of time, and our sun will burn out in a relatively short time. It is an incredible thought that all of our history, discovery, war, conflict, and humanity will all happen within the lifetime of one ordinary star. The probability of another sun and planet just like ours existing somewhere else in the boundless space around us is quite high, leading me to realize that we are far from the center of anything in this universe. We are simply a piece of something much more vast.
